Veiled Chameleon

Chamaeleo calyptratus

The Veiled Chameleon is one of the most visually spectacular reptiles available to hobbyists. Native to the mountain regions of Yemen and Saudi Arabia, these arboreal lizards are famous for their independently moving eyes, projectile tongues, zygodactyl feet, and the tall casque (helmet-like crest) atop their heads. Males display vivid bands of green, yellow, blue, and brown that shift in intensity with mood and temperature. Veiled Chameleons require a screen-sided enclosure with strong ventilation, a carefully managed drip or misting system for hydration, and precise temperature and UVB gradients. They are not a handling-friendly species — most prefer to be observed rather than touched. This makes them better suited for keepers who appreciate the art of building and maintaining a living vivarium and enjoy watching their chameleon hunt, explore, and display from a respectful distance.
