White's Tree Frog

Litoria caerulea

White's Tree Frog, also commonly known as the Dumpy Tree Frog or Australian Green Tree Frog, is one of the most popular amphibian pets in the world thanks to its endearing appearance and exceptionally calm temperament. Native to the forests, woodlands, and even urban areas of Australia and New Guinea, these large, robust tree frogs can reach four to five inches in body length and are characterized by their waxy green skin, wide mouth, and prominent fatty ridge above each eye that gives them a perpetually content expression. They are one of the few frog species that genuinely tolerate — and in some cases seem to enjoy — being handled, making them a rewarding interactive pet rather than a strictly look-but-don't-touch species. White's Tree Frogs thrive in tall, vertically oriented enclosures with live or artificial plants for climbing, moderate humidity between 50 and 70 percent, and temperatures in the mid-70s Fahrenheit. Their diet consists of appropriately sized insects such as crickets, roaches, and occasional earthworms, all dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements. With a docile nature, manageable care requirements, and a lifespan that can exceed fifteen years, they are an outstanding first amphibian for keepers of all ages.
